Branding Essentials for Glow Publications

Glow Publications is a Christian ministry that produces top-shelf devotional books for kids, teens, and adults. They had outgrown their original logo and needed a fresh brand identity system that would reflect their values and products.

We began the logo design process with a strategy consultation so that we could listen to Glow share their history and vision. We wanted to learn

We then wrote a Creative Brief that would become the touchpoint for their brand—defining who they are, and informing our design choices. With the Brief complete, we started exploring design directions for their new logo.

Here are a few options we considered, each emphasizing a different facet of their brand.

When we present concepts, we consider real world context too, like how the logo will look in white over a textured background—as they might see it on a book cover.

Notice how all these starter concepts share the same color palette? That was a deliberate choice to help Glow chose which direction they liked best, without being swayed by color preference.

This was their top pick:

They loved the flexibility of this logo. In addition to the full version, the “o” in Glow with the inset cross can serve as a stand-alone mark that subtly reinforces their brand.

Once Glow had chosen this direction, we refined it together by showing it in context on their own materials, and refining their final color selections.

They loved the blue palette, so we locked it up and delivered the final logo files in full color, one color, and black and white, ready for them to use in different contexts.

We also provided a Branding Guidelines PDF to help keep their brand consistent going forward, and some social media headers—ready for them to talk about their new look online.

And since the new logo conveniently wrapped up just as Glow was publishing a new series. . . we were able to include it on the book cover, hot off the press. How’s that for timing!

Last but not least, we helped them launch a new e-commerce website to sell their materials online. Harvest Media is a Big Commerce partner, and we set them up on this great platform to take their web store to the next level.
