An Interview with Blake:
How did you first become interested in Graphic Design?
My interest in design first came from the media side, I always had a passion to draw as a child, and I loved making short stop-motion movies. Presently, I'm advancing my skills in the branding and advertising side of design. I've been receiving client work from friends and local connections throughout my college career. I currently focus most of my graphic design time with Harvest Media, while finishing the last quarter of the bachelor’s degree with The Illinois Institute of Art in Chicago. I feel like the best thing for me right now is to get as much experience as possible.
What’s your favorite movie?
Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls; I could quote almost the entire movie scene by scene!
What is one secret talent you have that no one knows about?
Well I’d say for sure my excellent juggling skills. I’d practice all the time as a kid, so if you've got three objects I can hold at the same time, I probably can juggle them!
Who would you like to swap places with for a day?
I think for a day I would love to swap places with someone across the globe. Just the idea of seeing how much a culture differs from ours and the way life works outside of our society always fascinates me.
Who inspires you?
A huge inspiration of mine comes from architects, which is one of the reasons I got into the art field in the first place. My father and his father were both practicing architects while I was growing up, and one of their shared favorites was Frank Lloyd Wright, a well-known architect who built many homes around the world, but mostly in Illinois. He was the originator of the prairie house movement and style well known as “organic architecture,” a way of designing a building to best parallel the surrounding landscape. If you ever get a chance I highly recommend visiting one of his homes in Oak Park and taking a tour, they are breathtaking.
